Geobrugg Southern Africa is now producing TECCO® steel wire mesh

3 July 2024

Geobrugg Southern  Africa opened its first high-strength steel wire mesh production facility. The mesh, also known as TECCO®is used worldwide, e.g., for slope stabilization, rockfall and debris flow protection. It also protects miners on all continents.

Geobrugg has been based in Lanseria since 2020 and employs 65 people there. Wian Strydom, Managing Director of Geobrugg Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd, explains: “We plan to continue investing. The eventual vision is to have African steel made into African wire, coated with a protective coating, and then further beneficiated in our factory, thereby giving more opportunities to the local workforce.”

Strydom also points out that these measures will - besides other efforts - contribute to making Geobrugg South Africa a Level 4 company in the BE program by April 2025. The Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) is part of the South African government’s policy to empower the black population economically. Strydom is convinced: “This is an important step in strengthening our position in the construction and mining sector.”
