Now available: EPD for Geobrugg products

We are proud to announce that our high-tensile steel wire meshes have achieved a significant milestone: an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Validated and approved by an independent verifier, it is now registered and published on the platform The International EPD System.

Why is this important? An EPD is increasingly required in public tenders and proves our commitment to sustainable practices. Notably, due to their lower weight, our high-tensile steel meshes cause lower CO² emissions and reduce resource consumption per square meter compared to conventional mesh, highlighting their environmental efficiency.

In this newsletter, we'll explain the importance of our EPD, highlight the products that have been certified, and demonstrate how Geobrugg is leading the way in environmental responsibility.

What is an EPD?

An EPD is a third-party-verified environmental declaration Type III with quantified environmental data.

The impact indicators incorporate the average consumption of raw and auxiliary materials, waste and production volume.

It is valid for five years, is based on a life cycle assessment and must be prepared in accordance with the relevant standards ISO 14040/14044 (for LCA) and ISO 14025 (for EPD).

Which products are included?

Our EPD is considering the environmental impact of a product group manufactured by Geobrugg in Switzerland.

The product groups covered are high-tensile steel wire meshes with a corrosion protection coating. The EPD is now available for the following product groups:

- TECCO

- DELTAX

- MINAX

Notice: High-tensile steel is much lighter per square meter of mesh than soft-steel solutions and thus, causes fewer emissions and reduces resource consumption per m².

Therefore, an additional one-pager has been prepared for each product with the conversion from the EPD functional unit (kg) to product-related m²-values.
