Initial situation

Natural resource Wales need to clear the hillside of trees that have grown too tall and create a safety concern for road users, hill walkers, and tourists. During early stage investigation, many rock outcrops were found on site and concerns were raised of potential rockfall created during the tree harvesting process. The harvesting is undertaken by, and this involves the lifting and dragging of the cut tree to the stockpile. Potentially dislodging rock and debris in the process.

Description

Working alongside Caulmert we were able to supply experience and materials to this complex build and provide a temporary rockfall fence along the full road boundary of the site.

Colin Jones Rock Engineering stalled the GBE-100A-R of two m in height. The ground anchors are IBO R32 bar to depths of 2.5 m. Where rock head was not at surface the fence post bases are constructed of 1000 x 500 x 400 triple reinforced concrete bases. A combination of Geobrugg Type III wire rope anchors or Geobrugg Flexheads for IBO R32 bar drilled to depths of 4.5 m.
