The undermining protection is clearly visible.

Good planning for drilling was necessary, the walking excavator needs one day to traverse the terrain.

Inclined posts of different lengths in the terrain: Geobrugg has developed a telescopic measuring rod for this purpose. In this way, all holes could be drilled in one pass.

The mesh is unrolled between two posts, cut to size, the ends and seams tied and secured with a cover strip (see also next picture).

Initial situation

In cooperation with experts, a decision was taken in the community of Arosa at the end of 2016 to create a more species-appropriate outdoor enclosure for bears living in captivity.

Geobrugg was first contacted in February 2017: A fence had to be built for the 2.8 hectare site. Since the enclosure is located at an altitude of around 2,000 m above sea level, the fence had to withstand the pressure of snow in particular. Another challenge was the steep and uneven terrain.

Description

Geobrugg created a fence that - in addition to the snow pressure - meets various requirements. The facts:

  •  1 km fence, 800 m outside and 200 m inside
  •  Fence height 2,8 m
  •  5'500 m² net for fence and undermining protection
  •  12 km rope in different versions
  •  235 steel supports (over 50 tons)
  •  2 gates
  •  15 small animal openings
  •  Mounts for electricity: bears inside, pasture fences outside
  •  Mesh made of high-tensile 3 mm steel wire, mesh size 80 mm
