The powerhouse of the Nihuil 2 Hydraulic Power Plant suffered from rock impacts coming down from the adjacent slopes. In 2007, 10 dynamic rockfall protection barriers were installed to protect the infrastructure.

1) Barrier A1S: RXI-100. Capacity: 1000 kJ. Length: 10 m. Height: 3,0 m
2) Barrier A2S: RXI-100. Capacity: 1000 kJ. Length: 10 m. Height: 3,0 m
3) Barrier A3S: RXI-100. Capacity: 1000 kJ. Length: 40 m. Height: 3,0 m
4) Barrier B: RXI-150. Capacity: 1500 kJ. Length: 54 m. Height: 3,0 m
5) Barrier C1S: RXI-025. Capacity: 250 kJ. Length: 10 m. Height: 4,0 m
6) Barrier C2S: RXI-025. Capacity: 250 kJ. Length: 10 m. Height: 4,0 m
7) Barrier INF1: RXI-030. Capacity: 300 kJ. Length: 30 m. Height: 4,0 m
8) Barrier INF2: RXI-030. Capacity: 300 kJ. Length: 70 m. Height: 4,0 m
9) Barrier INT: RXI-100. Capacity: 1000 kJ. Length: 60 m. Height: 5,5 m
10) Barrier D1: RXI-075. Capacity: 750 kJ. Length: 20 m. Height: 4,0 m
After a 5-ton block had hit the barrier, a general maintenance of all barriers was carried out in 2019. The works included:
- Cleaning the barriers
- Replacement of a ring net section, retaining cables, secondary meshes, and brakes
- Realignment of side post
- Fixation of cable ties
