Another perspective of GBE-100A-R rockfall barrier in Cerro Armazones protecting the road to European Southern Observatory

Steinschlagschutz - Cerro Armazones - European Southern Observatory 2016

GBE-100A-R barrier is extremely lightweight and easy to install what makes it really unobtrusive to the landscape

Ausgangslage

The access road to the ESO (European Southern Observatory) in Cerro Armazones, was regularly effected by rockfalls after a seismic event with a magnitude of 6.4 Mw in the region of Antofagas.

Massnahme

The observatory needed a safe transit road. Geobrugg was contacted to propose a solution. Geobrugg's Team from Chile visited the site to deliver a probabilistic hazard analysis to the customer.  Geobrugg suggested a GBE-100A-R rockfall barrier (without retaining ropes) be installed.
