Thanks to their good elastic-plastic deformation behavior, ring net rockfall barriers can protect objects such as ski runs and access paths against small avalanches. A joint research project of SLF / alpS / Fieberbrunn mountain railways / Geobrugg accordingly documented this in winter 2003 - 2005. Decisive factors for effective protection are the maximum possible height of snow, expected snow mass, height of the barrier and position relative to the object to be protected.
