Glass facades and glass roofs: aesthetic architecture accentuated by steel ropes

Aesthetic architecture with glass facades and glass roofs

Glass facades and roofs are light-weight structures, flooded with light. Their aesthetic architecture is accentuated by steel ropes from Geobrugg. Through the internal positioning facility of HYEND fork heads, locked adjusters are dispensed with and the tolerances of steel and concrete are elegantly equalized.

Example of reference:

Objekt
Glass facade, Strasbourg main railway station

Architect
Jean-Marie Duthilleul, France

Project
The new glass roofed hall, 120 meters long and 25 meters high in front of the old station, a protected building of historic importance, brings to the former exterior a high quality waiting facility with a continued free view of the historic building. The lattice steel supporting structure comprises individual arched elements. The primary supporting structure consists of a total of 16 main arches under-spanned with stainless steel ropes resting on socketed columns at 9 meter intervals. Providing the horizontal reinforcement is a secondary structure – with stabilizing elements under-spanned by tie rods – plus a similarly arched tertiary structure. In order to comply with the protected building regulations, no connections between the old and new buildings are allowed.
